Arizona State – Michigan State Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 16:00

If hes fired up, fine. Weve seen emotional games work for athletes for the better, too Brett Favres night in Oakland right after his fathers death is one of the great efforts youll ever witness. Thats who he is. But hes human.I remember MSUs Denzel Valentine and Iowas Anthony Clemmons, teammates at Lansing Sexton High School, putting together the worst two performances Ive ever seen on a basketball court when they met for the first time in college, trying to show off to their shared inner-circles and each other. The playmaking will come. MSU needs Lewerke to be himself. Lewerke is a seasoned player, who ought to be able to handle an emotional game in his backyard in front of family and friends whove never seen him play college football in person. If he forces it, who knows. But hes got to manage the game first.

The Big Tens history at Arizona State just as bad. I still like the Spartans to win. But every factor since has made me think twice. Theyrethe moreseasoned club and showed poise at key positions late last week. Before last week, I thought Michigan State might roll through the Sun Devils. This Arizona State team reminds me a little of the 1995 Spartans, Nick Sabans first group, in that it has NFL playmakers, but is flawed in critical places. Just dont bet on it. Those are dangerous teams. Perhaps Im overanalyzing check that, I know Im overanalyzing but Arizona State looked impressive last week and MSU didnt. MSUs history Out West is abysmal.

Meanwhile, the Spartans have racked up nine sacks through their first two outings. Michigan State struggled to get pressure on Devils QB Manny Wilkins in that game, but Wilkins is now with the NFLs Green Bay Packers and the banged-up Arizona State offensive line has allowed six sacks through two games this year. Beyond providing motivation for the Spartans, however, last years meeting may not have much carryover into this one.

Pressure point: Edwards brought in defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales from San Diego State, and the Sun Devils got a spark with nine sacks from their new 3-3-5 defense that typically uses three down linemen, three linebackers and five defensive backs Structurally, its different than what weve seen so it presents a little different picture, MSU QB coach Brad Salem said.

Edwards views himself more as a CEO and brings an NFL structure to the Sun Devils program. He was 56-78 in eight seasons with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs and had not coached since 2008 until Saturdays opening win. Playing to win the game: Edwards had plenty of NFL experience but never had been a college head coach until Arizona State hired him away from an ESPN analyst job in December.

I think Manny Wilkins will have another big game and NKealHarry will follow up his dominant performance with more of the same, but Im just not sold on this ASU defense yet. There are factors in play that favor the Sun Devils (i.e.

Upcoming Events

Michigan States offense got untracked last week and will be the toughest challenge yet for a young Arizona State defense, while the Spartanspass rush should be a factor as well. Ill grab Michigan State -12 and may sprinkle a bit on the Sun Devils team total UNDER as well. This games all about revenge for Sparty, and I expect them to get it.

Sure, Brian Lewerke passed for nearly 300 yards, but the Spartans could have scored at will if they continued to take advantage of the Aggies shaky secondary. On the offensive side of the ball, Michigan State needs to air it out a bit more than it did against Utah State. Arizona State doesnt exactly have an elite passing defense, so Lewerke will need a big homecoming.

Lewerke is still developing chemistry with his tight ends and secondary receivers, but starters Felton Davis III, Darrell Stewart Jr. Davidson each had two of thosesacks, while mammoth defensive end Shannon Forman returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown. When MSU has the ball: The Spartans without starting left tackle Cole Chewins struggled to block between-the-tackle run plays and had major pass-protection issues on the edge of the line and in the backfield during the first half against Utah State. Defensive end Darius Slade, an Ohio State transfer, and defensive tackle D.J. Connor Heyward emerged as a speedy, powerful option at running back with two TDs, and LJ Scott looked impressive catching the ball on screens. Arizona State allowed just 2 rushing yards and had nine sacks in a 49-7 blowout of Texas-San Antonio. However, when QB Brian Lewerke went with option runs or sideline pass plays, MSU moved the ball in big chunks and blocked better. and Cody White picked up where they left off last season by combining for 194 of MSUs 287 receiving yards and 15 of the Spartans 23 catches.

Itll be a back-and-forth battle and one thatll have fans on the edge of their seats for 60 minutes, but a late interception by David Dowell will end the game. No one likes to watch their team hit the road for some Pac-12 After Dark action, especially since the Big Ten is 0-9 in Tempe all time, but Michigan State is going to flex some muscle late and hold on for a tough late-night win. If your heart is still racing from the win over Utah State, Id suggest taking this week off.

Darrell Stewart Jr. Joe Bachie leads the Michigan State Spartans with 13 tackles, Kenny Willekes has 3.5 sacks and Antjuan Simmons has one interception. Brian Lewerke is completing 63.8 percent of his passes for 506 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. The Michigan State Spartans ground game is averaging 179.5 yards per contest, and Elijah Collins leads the way with 209 yards on 25 carries. and Cody White have combined for 322 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Matt Dotson has five receptions. Lewerke has one or less touchdown passes in five of his last six games. The Michigan State Spartans also look for a 3-0 record with their third straight home victory. The Michigan State Spartans have won six of their last nine home games. Defensively, Michigan State is allowing 12 points and 216 yards per game.
