Our Prediction:

Virginia will win

Florida State – Virginia Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 19:30

The public betting is strongly with Virginia tonight as well. Florida State has an offense that could cause problems for Virginia, but the Cavs have been so locked in that I am going to continue to ride their hot streak. If someone is going to find a weakness in the FSU offense, it is Virginia. They have kept their last 10 opponents under 65 points, which includes a road trip at Duke and a home game with UNC. Florida State has won the last two meetings with Virginia, but the two havent met since 2016.

Virginia had no trouble picking up Tony Bennetts 300th career win and the Cavaliers cruised to victory in the 2nd half after taking a 50-25 halftime lead. Virginia shot 53.2% from the field and outrebounded Marshall by a 45-23 margin in the victory. The 4th ranked Virginia Cavaliers stayed perfect on the season, improving to 12-0 (0-0 ACC) on the season after defeating the Marshall Thundering Herd, 100-64, this past Monday. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was Kyle Guy who had 30 points & 8 rebounds.

Over the course of the summer, the line has moved from FSU -5.5 to FSU -7.5, and further movement before game time is possible. Perhaps realizing thatand owing to some optimism for an FSU turnaroundbettors have been hammering the Seminoles against the spread as this matchup approaches.

The Seminoles are now 17-6 overall, 6-5 in the ACC and 14-6-1 against the spread. Defensively, the Seminoles are allowing 73.3 per game. FSU is scoring 84.7 per game this season and 91.2 per game at home. Terance Mann is leading FSU with 15.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while Braian Angola is adding 14.1 points per game. Florida State is coming off an 80-76 win at Louisville last weekend for its fourth win in five games.

Even with some good backs in place running behind this line, the Hokies have to prove they can consistently crank out yards they have to get to at least four yards per carry, and thats not a given. Its a decent Hokie line, but its not a killer, and it has to prove it can be dominant at times for the ground game.

CFN Rankings

Im not really sure whats going to happen. Not as far apart as the wizards of the desert think it is, but it being home field sure counts for something. For the sake of it being a home game at FSU, Id say that, much to my chagrin, the Noles win something like 34-28 or something to that effect.

While losing Tim Settle, Tremaine and Terrell Edmunds, Greg Stroman, Brandon Facyson and others is never a good thing, we all know to never count out Foster. This is one season where I am truly not sure what to think about the Hokies one either side of the football. With so many standouts gone to the NFL, Bud Foster has a completely new group to work with defensively. He lives for this stuff.

This is truly a fantastic opportunity for the Hokies to start their run for the Coastal division crown off on the right foot, especially given Miamis stinker of a performance last night. Unfortunately, I just see the away environment and the rocky uncertainty of how the inexperienced will perform as a deck stacked slightly too tall for the Hokies to overcome. I would take the points, though (for you gamblers out there).

Both teams enter the ACC matchup with question marks, but for different reasons. The Seminoles are beginning a new era under head coach Willie Taggart, who previously coached at Oregon and USF. According to ESPNs Phil Steele, the Hokies are only projected to have five returning defensive starters this season. In addition to a new offensive system, quarterback Deondre Francois will make his first start in a year after suffering a season-ending knee injury in their 2017 opener.
