Our Prediction:

Australia will win

Sri Lanka – Australia Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 10:00

However, it remains to be seen whether the team will take the risk of playing him. Nuwan Pradeep, who dislocated his finger in a training session, has returned to bowling in the nets. The veteran pacer, however, is expected to rejoin the team ahead of this upcoming clash against Australia. In case Pradeep misses out again, Suranga Lakmal will lead the Sri Lankan pace attack while leg-spinner Jeevan Mendis will get an extended run. Lasith Malinga had returned home after the last match against Bangladesh due to a death in his family.

Marcus Stoinis has been added into the side and may make his debut in this match. We think Australia may choose to rest Usman Khawaja for this match since he is a certainty on the trip to England. This is the last test that Australia will play before the Ashes and so getting runs is going to be very important.

Australia vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Match Prediction

Has Australian cricket turned a corner or is it just a false dawn against an underwhelming Sri Lanka side? Does Sri Lanka have the resources to be able to win their first ever test match in Australia? The second test between Australia and Sri Lanka is going to be played at Canberra on one of the flattest pitches in the country. Batsmen on both sides should be able to take advantage of the batting conditions and score some big runs.

The skipper, Dimuth Karunaratne played an excellent inning with the bat. Sri Lankan team is coming into this match on the back of a loss in their first warm-up match against South Africa with a huge margin of 87 runs. Angelo Mathews was also good with the bat as he had 64 runs in his account. They won the toss and decided to field first. He scored 87 runs. Kusal Mendis scored 37 runs. They leaked 338 runs in their 50 overs. This decision did not the world for them. The batting order of Sri Lankan team failed to chase this massive total and was all-out on the total of 251 runs in 43rd over. Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep got two wickets each while Isuru Udana, Jeevan Mendis, and Dhananjaya de Silva had one wicket each in their account.

Malinga picked up three wickets against Afghanistan and that should give him some confidence going into this game. Lakmal's spell with the new ball is going to be crucial while Perera's ability to break prospering partnerships makes him the one to watch out for. Nuwan Pradeeps participation in this game is under a cloud and his absence would mean that Sri Lanka will have to rely on the likes of Lasith Malinga, Suranga Lakmal and Thisara Perera when it comes to bowling.

AUS vs SL Head to Head

David Warner scored 107 runs. They could not score many runs in the last five overs. They scored just 16 runs and lost their four wickets in last five overs. They only lost a match against India with a margin of 36 runs. They won three out of four matches played. They won their most recent match against Pakistan with a massive margin of 41 runs. They lost the toss and were put into bat first. The batting order of their side played well and scored 307 runs in their fifty overs. The performance of the Australia team had been good in this tournament till now. The skipper, Aaron Finch also played a good inning with the bat as he scored 82 runs. He smashed eleven boundaries and one maximum six.

Glenn Maxwell was the most expensive bowler from their side who was charged for 58 runs in seven overs and he remained wicketless. Nathan Coulter-Nile got one wicket while he bowled nine overs and he leaked 53 runs. The bowling unit of Australia also played an excellent with the ball. At one stage, it was looking that they the bowling unit of Australia cannot defend this total of 307 runs but they did it. Pat Cummins proved the most successful bowler from their side who got three wickets in his ten overs and leaked just 33 runs. Mitchell Starc and Kane Richardson got two wickets each. The skipper, Aaron Finch bowled two overs he leaked 13 runs and got one wicket.

It increases the onus on Starc to give Australia an early breakthrough, something hell try by getting the ball to swing in massively into Karunaratne. With the Kennington Oval traditionally know to serve up pristine batting surfaces, this is a track Karunaratnewhile like batting on. An area where Karunaratne suffers is the ball which moves in the air and comes into him after pitching with his willingness to play on the back foot leaving him cramped for room at times.

Sri Lanka Inning 2

Nathan Coulter-Nile has not looked at his best and he will be eyeing this game as an opportunity to return to form. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are both among the tournament's best bowlers with nine wickets apiece and the pace duo will be expected to run through the Sri Lankan batting line-up. Cummins is coming off a three-wicket haul against Pakistan and he will look to spit venom with the new ball again.
